After taking part in a service station hold-up, Samba hides out in his home village, where his parents and friends live, as well as Saratou, who is bringing up her young son by herself. His nearest and dearest are soon wondering where Samba obtained the money he is spending so freely. He marries Saratou and with his friend Salif opens a bar, a dream the pair have long cherished. But when Saratou has to be driven to town to give birth, Samba realizes he risks being recognized and arrested by the police.
